Obituary of John Steven Fisher

John Steven (Steve) Fisher passed away on March 6, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife and camping partner, Martha, his father, John, and his youngest brother, David.

Steve was born in Moses Lake, WA on July 19, 1954 and was the oldest of four boys. He spent most of his childhood in the Burley/ Heyburn area of Idaho where he developed his love of the outdoors catching fish, crawdads, tadpoles, frogs, snakes and all kinds of other critters. Steve graduated from Burley High School in 1973.  Throughout his life, Steve had many jobs using his hands to build or fix things. He built pole buildings, installed solar before solar was cool, and eventually became an automotive, small engine, and diesel mechanic. He married Martha in 1985 and became a dad by choice to a son, Jason, and a daughter, Shannon. Steve eventually moved his family to New Plymouth, Idaho. He shared his love of the outdoors, hunting, camping, and fishing with all his family. Steve and Martha were familiar faces working for the New Plymouth School District even after their kids graduated. They loved to decorate their yard with Christmas decorations to share with the community during the holidays. Steve eventually retired early as the bus mechanic for the school district when he needed to help Martha battle cancer, but only after he recruited a long time friend, Chris, to apply for his position.

Steve is survived by his mom, Audree Fisher of Caldwell, two brothers, Rodney Fisher and Kenneth Fisher also of Caldwell, a son, Jason (Nicole) Fisher of New Plymouth, and a daughter, Shannon French of New Plymouth. He also had 8 grandsons Kodi, AJ, Bryce, and Chance Fisher, Grady French, James, Issac, and Caleb Arens, one granddaughter and best buddy, Ruby French,  his beloved dog, Sage, and his first great granddaughter, who will be born in August.

At the end of his life Steve battled health issues but was blessed to have special time with his family including his mother and brothers. His grandkids will carry on his memory with camping and fishing, and his brothers are planning to carry out his plan of gold panning this summer. Steve was a gentle soul who will be missed by many. His family hopes we can all ease our pain knowing he is now healed and fishing with Martha in heaven.
