Jessica Schmidt

Obituary of Jessica Dawn Schmidt

Jessica Dawn Schmidt was born to Justin and Lynette Schmidt on August 6, 2003, at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Illinois. Recently she was on a camping trip with her Uncle Tim, Aunt Charlotte and their two sons. While on this outing she departed this life in a tragic vehicle accident, together with her Aunt Charlotte, on November 25, 2022, at Marion, Kansas. Jessica's childhood years were spent at Arthur, Illinois. She attended Prairie Mennonite School and graduated from eighth grade in May of 2018. In November of 2018, she, together with her family, moved to New Plymouth, Idaho. During her teenage years she worked at a Greenhouse and helped in the potato harvest. For the last year she was employed at Edgewood, an assisted living facility, as a caregiver. Jessica enjoyed the work and interaction with the residents. In turn her coworkers and the residents loved her bubbly personality. Jessica was an early riser. On the mornings she worked, she would arise at 4:30 in the morning and have her coffee. This was also her devotional time and a time to sing. She would sing through the songs in her song binders page by page, and then go to work for 6:00. Recently Jessica had moved to Kansas. Uncle Tim, Aunt Charlotte, and their two sons were fast becoming her family away from home. Jessica was planning to begin taking CNA training and begin work at Moundridge Manor. It was Jessica's desire to be a Christian. For several years she endeavored to find peace with God. As she came to understand that God heard her and had forgiven her sins, she found rest. She was baptized on April 29, 2019, by Minister David Nightingale, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, and to this faith she remained true to the end. During the last year she attended a girl's Preparatory Class at Wingo, Kentucky, and also attended the recent General Conference. Jessica faced some challenges in life as everyone does. For a time, she dealt with an eating disorder. With God's help and medical assistance, she was able to make a rapid recovery. She and the doctor were convinced this was a miracle from God. After attending Preparatory Class she came to a deeper commitment and surrender of her life to God's will that brought a deep quietness and joy. Jessica gave her love freely to her family and those she came in contact with. She had a heart for people and their needs. She is survived by her parents, Justin and Lynette; sister, Kayla; brother, Andrew; paternal grandparents, Wayne and Winona Schmidt of Okolona, MS; maternal grandmother, Myrtle Becker of Moundridge; and many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Howard R. Becker; infant cousin, Elizabeth Ann Cole; and aunt, Charlotte Sue Cole. Service Details.
