Obituary of Frank Burns DeMark

Frank Burns DeMark passed away peacefully on November 10, 2022 at the age of 92. He was born on March 30, 1930 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Nina and Frank Senior. Frank grew up in Peyton, Colorado with his little brother Vernon. He enjoyed telling stories about the mischief the two caused in their early years. One involved Frank pushing Vernon in a wagon down the rooftop of a low shed. Vernon wasn't hurt but put up a fuss. Frank recalled hiding under the bed knowing trouble was at hand. Frank played basketball in high school and graduated from Peyton High with a class of 4.3 boys and 1 girl. His mother passed away when Frank was 16. His father remarried. After his graduation, his family moved to Idaho and bought 80+ acres of desert land near Caldwell. Frank and Vernon worked to remove sagebrush and make the land ready for the irrigating. The two brothers worked the farm and hunted in their free time. Hunting and fishing were Frank's true passions. One bird hunting excursion in the Mann Creek area resulted in Frank's handgun misfiring, lodging a bullet in the calf of his leg. It was Sunday morning, but they found a doctor at his in-home office in Weiser who removed the bullet by pushing a rod through the entry wound. No anesthesia. Frank only had $30 on him, and the doctor said that would cover the bill. Frank joined the Air Force in 1951 and served during the Korean War. He married Maxine Smith about that time. They were married a few years and had two daughters, Vicki and Jacki. He married Bev Crossland in 1962. The couple and her daughter, Valerie, moved to Salmon, Idaho where they lived for about 20 years. After leaving Salmon, Frank and Bev traveled for a few years, snow birding between Idaho and Arizona. They lived in Arizona before returning to Caldwell in 1990 where they resided until Bev passed away earlier this year. Frank had fond memories of their travels and adventures together. Frank had a rich and varied working career and public service history. He farmed and ranched, worked in the automotive trade, owned an auto parts store and a Ford dealership. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge and Chamber of Commerce in Salmon. After moving to Caldwell, he managed the Armory rentals. For the past 20 years, he served as president and/or board member of the Caldwell Irrigation Lateral District, where he made long-lasting friendships. He was finishing his last term on the board when he passed. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Nina, his brothers Charles and Vernon, and his wife Beverly. He is survived by his children-Vicki and Jack, Jacki and Roger, Val and Jeff. He leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and good friends. They will miss him, his sense of humor, and his stories.
