Obituary of Sally Carolyn High

Sally Carolyn High (nee Field, Rutan) died peacefully on September 20, 2022 from Alzheimers disease. She was 83. Sally was born on January 31, 1939 in Seattle, Washington to Harriet and Gilbert Field. She grew up in north Seattle, the third of four sisters. A lover of the outdoors, Sally enjoyed summers on Vashon Island at her family's cottage and the waters of Lake Washington and Puget Sound. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Eleanor Thiennes (Paul) and Charlotte Jones (Norm), and is survived by sister Pam Generaux (Guy), of Seattle. As a young woman she married Paul Rutan (d) and moved to Star, Idaho where she would raise her own girls, Denise Ostolasa (Robert) and Susan Rutan Owens (Patrick). Sally and her daughters still have many dear friends and and neighbors in Star. In 1987 she married Chuck High,and the two enjoyed the craftsman bungalow they lovingly restored Boise's North End before retiring in Payette, Idaho. Sally was an avid maker, and will be remembered by friends and family through the quilts,, knit blankets, and other creations she gifted. She also collected antiques, enjoyed good food, and loved her pets, many of them rescue dogs. In her later years she spent time with Chuck in their vintage travel trailer exploring the Northwest. Sally had a long career with the City of Boise, from where she retired in 2003. Sally's slow decline into Alzheimers began around 2015, and in March of 2021she moved to her final home at Edgewood Spring Creek in Fruitland. Her family would like to especially thank the wonderful staff at Edgewood for their compassionate and loving care. Sally is additionally survived by her stepdaughters Gina Valentino, Kim High (Ryan Toombs) and Holli Woodings (Ryan); grandchildren Carolyn Mintmier. Chanda and Blake Littlefield, Mary and Arthur Woodings, and was preceded in death by grandson Corey High. She'll be remembered by family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and all whose lives she touched. Service Details.
