Obituary of Delmer Wayne Thompson

Delmer Wayne Thompson was born June 16th, 1935 in Council, Idaho to Aleta Margret (Ball) Thompson and Louis "Pud" Alvie Thompson, he was the third of eight children. His formal education ended in the 8th grade. This propelled his start into the workforce at a young age, in which he worked many different laborer and farming jobs throughout the years. When he was aged 19, he worked at the Tamarack sawmill and in the surrounding forest. He lived and worked in John Day and Burns, Oregon and then moved with his parents to Colville, Washington. After one winter in Colville, he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and onwards to Brownlee, Idaho/Oregon for work. Delmer marveled about his work on the dam in Brownlee. On site, his uncle Morris Ball taught him to drill, which helped him on other laborer jobs in the future. In the early 1960's, Delmer met his future wife Audrey Parsons at the Council rodeo in the dance hall. Even when Delmer went to work on the Oxbow Dam with construction companies like MacGregor and MK, Audrey was on his mind, and they were married on April 7th, 1962. After two years of living in Oxbow, Delmer and Audrey moved back to Council with Audrey's sons Butch and Bill Ledbetter, along with Delmer and Audrey's first-born son Wayne. In 1966, Delmer and Audrey moved to New Plymouth, Idaho, to their forever home. They built up their lives as dairy farmers, while Delmer would take side jobs working on the Hells Canyon Dam, building roads in rural and/or isolated areas at the time like McCall's Warren Wagon Road. Their home was always full as they had two more children after Wayne, Edgar and Janet, several grandchildren and countless other family members and friends rotating throughout the home through the years. In quiet times, Delmer would enjoy listening to 1950-60's country music or be seen zooming by on his tractor, four-wheeler or side by side as he surveyed his property's landscape. He had a beautiful, fulfilling life of many wonder moments that was made even sweeter by his loving wife Audrey, who preceded his passing. Delmer passed on the morning of Wednesday, August 24th, 2022. Delmer is survived by his children, Linda Paulin of New Plymouth Idaho, Butch Ledbetter of Emmett Idaho, Edgar Thompson of New Plymouth Idaho, and Janet Wiley of Payette Idaho; his brother Donnie Thompson of Colville Washington and his sister Nina Mae Delp of Addy Washington; in addition to many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. Delmer was preceded in death by his parents, five of his siblings, his wife Audrey Thompson, his stepson Bill Ledbetter, and his son Wayne Thompson. Service Details.
