To all the family and friends of Darrell Cox I extend my deepest sympathy at the loss of a great man and loving family man. I first met Darrell upon moving to wilder, in 2006, near where he lived. He was the first to welcome my wife and I to the neighborhood and did so on the very first day we arrived. As time went on, we found Darrell to be a frequent visitor, coming to visit on his quad cycle which he seemed to like riding around on in the neighborhood. We, of course where not the only people he visited. No, he would visit or check on everyone around making sure he knew all that was going on and freely giving that information out to all that would listen. He was the quintessential story teller and had an anecdotal story to tell with every visit. He often spoke of his exploits as a young man on the farm and his loving Mother and Father. He was never at a loss for words when it came to his family and spoke fondly of his brothers and sister whenever he came down to chat. In the beginning of what later became a very welcomed friendship, it was very much a one-sided affair with me listening and Darrell talking. This wasn't because I was disinterested or bothered by his visits, no indeed I enjoyed the time he spent with me always. The silence on my part was due to the fact that I am a Disabled Vietnam Veteran and among other things suffer from what is now known as PTSD which has made me, over the years, withdraw from people rather than engage them. This is where my story to you is less about sympathy and much more about gratitude. You see for the last 15 years that I have known Darrell he slowly and methodically reached out to me and allowed me to engage him in conversations and activities that has allowed me to function with more clarity and purpose then I had been for many years. I wanted you to know that his friendship, kindness and wisdom shell forever influence my life and that my gratitude to Darrell is in-calculable. There was no lack of humerus conversations and stories with his visit, so let me end by tell you one that happened a few years back. Often Darrell would come down to get help or advise on one of his many projects he was working on and say to me: "Bud, you're the smartest guy I know so I am sure you can help me." After several such visits and Bud, you're the smartest guy starts, which I always enjoyed. He once again came down and said: Bud you're the smartest guy------. But this time I stopped him and said hold on a minute their "Punk". If you going to keep telling me how smart I am then you need to say the whole title first which is: "Bud you're the biggest Smart A-- I know". He looked at me and smiled and it was from that point on that we both knew that our friendship was ever lasting. I just wanted you all to know that Darrell reached out to many people, some of which, like myself, you may not know and helped them with his words and kindness. God forever bless you Punk Bud Bicknell
