Obituary of Clifford Deryl Morgan

Clifford Deryl Morgan (Papa), 86, died November 1, 2021, peacefully in his home, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his older sisters, Sheryl Alex and Marilyn VanPelt, his eldest daughter, Luanne Loughran, and his grandson Jason Soares. Cliff is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Morgan, his younger sister, Shannon Howell, four daughters, Patti Burrup, Tina Bolin, Deni Morgan, and Jan Morgan as well as thirty-one grandchildren and fifty-nine great grandchildren. Clifford was born in Carrol Iowa in 1935 to parents Florence and Delbert Morgan. At age 18, Cliff married his high school sweetheart, Mary Finken, and together they started a family. Cliff's career was spent working for AT&T, moving him and his family to various places including Iowa, Colorado, Minnesota, Washington, California, and even for a period, the British Virgin Islands. After 33 years of service with AT&T, Cliff retired and moved in 1993 from his home in Woodland, California, to a small farm of seventy-two acres in Payette, Idaho, where he lived the remainder of his life. In his leisure time, Cliff was a competitive card player and avid reader. He enjoyed fishing even when it meant taking his young daughters to the lakes of Minnesota in the heat of the summer of sitting quietly with one of them in the icehouse he built. He found pleasure in working with his hands building practical furniture and original gifts. The craft his family admired most was that Cliff was a self-taught Jack-of-all-Trades. Never requiring a repairman in his own home, Cliff was often the handyman called to the homes of friends and neighbors for his generous skills. Cliff's life was characterized by his three loves: his faith, his family, and his work. As a devout Catholic man and the patriarch of his family he was always willing to help those in need, be it family, friends, or a stranger. Behind his tough exterior was a kind, warm-hearted, gentle man. Cliff did not pursue lofty goals or material possessions for himself but sought to fill the needs of those around him. He was a practical man who led by example. Mathew 7:16 "by their fruits you shall know them" and the size and the scope of good fruits that Cliff's life seeded is evident in the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends that will forever carry the im of his example in their minds and hearts. Kindness, generosity, devotion, love, duty; these were exemplified in Cliff's life. If one were to ask him for principles with which to guide your life, undoubtedly, he would reply, "Love God, be honest, and work hard and work harder." Cliff was certainly an honest man who loved God and worked hard. To those who knew and loved Cliff there is a fire in each one of us that burns brightly because of him and for him; a fire that will never die. He will be fondly remembered for a life full of teaching and helping, the fruits of which will extend out generations like the branches of a tree, to produce new life and new fruits in those of us fortunate enough to have been part of his life. We pray that Almighty God may faithfully accept the soul of His humble servant into life everlasting and that he may rest in peace. Service Details.
